St Ewoldsâ residents have enjoyed several trips on Wetwheels throughout the summer and wanted to give something back.
Jennifer Wilkinson the Social Activities Co-ordinator who organised the trips for the residence said, âEveryone just loved the trips and it bought back such great memories for the residents who had sailed in their youth. Because of this they wanted to help raise some money for the charity. We held a raffle in-house and I took part in the Spartanâ half marathon for which friends and family sponsored meâ.
More than half of the residents at St Ewolds enjoyed a trip on Wetwheels this year, some of them going more than once. The oldest passenger, who is a sprightly 98 years old, is hoping to squeeze another trip in before the end of the season.
One of the residents, Murtle Blondel, said how wonderful the trip was and how she was so well looked after by the volunteer Skipper Richard Hollick and the crew members, who she described as being âso kindâ. Murtle said, âI drove the boat, I loved it and I canât wait to go again, such fun.â
Dina Cook commented, âIt was so lovely to meet the residents and hear first-hand the positive impact that going on Wetwheels gave them and how much they had enjoyed the experience. They were so enthusiastic and asked if they could go again soon. Their donation is very important to us as we provide our trips free of charge, and rely on the generosity of our customers, donors and sponsors to continue to offer the service to as many people as possible.
